Boogie

Boogie

This is Boogie, my American Saddlebred. He is not well-behaved, a total “scardie cat” and sould be in the arena, not on the trail. Having said that, he is my trail horse. We log many miles together and have become best of buds!

My gal pals tolerate his bad behavior and allow me to ride with them. We travel throughout California together camping and at times treat ourselves to horse and spa resorts.

Here I will be posting about my travels and of course my bud Boogie. We run up hills, eat along the trail and stop at random times for photo ops! See why my friends tolerate me? Thank goodness they love me.

As you can see in this photo, he thinks all vegetation is his. Shortly after we took this photo the fence grew to keep him away from the landscape in the backyard.

Horsing Around Events

In this section I will be listing events and asking for all of you to inform us of events in your areas. It seems to me that we all want to be at all places at all times and to have missed an event that you could have attended but never knew it existed is even worse!

If we can find many of them here in one location how perfect can that be! As I travel I find events all over, this weekend I attended the Second Annual Horsemen’s Reunion in Paso Robles Ca. So many of the residents that we met during our stay in Paso had no idea themselves that the event was happening right down their street at the fairground. Horse people talk to horse people and wine people talk to wine people… well girls not us, we will be talking to both! So let’s get our heads out of the barrel and into Horsing around postings and find out what we won’t be missing.

As I shared the event with the wine pourers at the tasting bars, they had no idea it was taking place and of course what fun I had telling them about it.. non horse people enjoy watching horse events and horse people enjoy wine events..

horsingaroundThis is a photo of Larry Mahan training his colt, the colt had just laid down on him and then up as quick as he went down. Larry is world famous cowboy, 8 time World Champion Cowboy with 6 All Around World Championships, to be able to watch him start a colt and work him for 6 days , then have the opportunity to purchase this colt at the event’s end auction, well amazing! This little colt only took $1,400.00 at auction, he needed a lot more time.

I only heard about this event at an event I attended as it was posted in the ladies room! The things we learn in the ladies room.

Cooled

CooledMeet Cooled, my husband, really named Danny but this is name on Facebook and I liked it. Cooled is a former GQ model and has had quite an interesting life before our stars aligned and we met. He supports me in all my crazy adventures and has started a new business Cooled Comfort, thus the name Cooled. If you have read my Gracie’s story you pretty much know ours.

My dear Mom would tell me always that you really don’t know someone , for a very long time. I sort of understood what she was telling me when I was a young, thought I understood it when I grew older and then really understood it when I feel in love with this guy. Men can be so non-sharing, now I am not saying that they don’t share on purpose, but I think they have very little words each day to say, they don’t like to talk much. So little by little words come out that share who they are, where they were and what they think. It is like a long slow movie that unfolds before your eyes. I enjoy this slow unfolding movie.

Now me, I read somewhere that the average wife has over 80,000 words to tell their spouse each day, double that and you might reach mine. Thus the blog… what better way to express myself and spare Cooled! I don’t think there isn’t anything in my life that he hasn’t heard about already at least twice. And my girlfriends… they take at least half of those words for me!

Well Cooled is pretty funny, full of interesting stories and keeps things lively in our lifes. He collects friends where ever we go which adds such greatness to our lives. So here I will share about his adventures and friends.

Gracie Mae

Gracie MaeLittle did I know that this sweet and funny character would change my life, entirely!  Man’s best friend brought me friendship and a husband… nice right? Gracie came to me when my life was starting its new chapter newly divorced and living alone for the first time in many years, needing someone to come home to at night I went on a search for just the right dog.

Each Friday evening our Horse Club puts on dinner for its members, a gathering of hungry horse loving people. One if our members had posted Corgi puppies for sale, just what I was looking for, well really, he was!

About a year and half prior to this night my trail buddy and dearest friend Val and I had been out riding in our local hills. It was a cold and windy day we had just passed over a small crossing in where an animal had been killed and the smell of death was strongly in the air. Our horses were excited by the weather and now the smell had them on high alert. As we rounded the bend in the road ahead we heard voices and then appeared a sight that I will never forget.

This is where the weather statement mentioned before becomes really important, remember the wind is blowing, it blows the long and flowing tail and mane of a tall and beautiful black Friesian horse, upon its back sat the most incredibly handsome man, draped in a long over-coat, his own beautiful blonde hair blowing in the wind, his eyes blue of a wolfs. He struggles with his horse to keep it still, I find myself staring at him, not really hearing the conversation with his friends and Val. They continue on their ride, in the other direction, us on ours. To say the least I was smitten, and now on a quest!

Well a year and a half later, guess who has puppies and guess who needs one! Life, isn’t it sweet. You just sit and wait and yes as corny as it sounds love finds you. So my dear little puppy Gracie becomes my saving grace, bringing her mommy love in many ways. Thank you Gracie Mae, you forever will be my saving “Gracie”.

She continues to bring me joy and laughter, such a funny little dog. I hope you will enjoy her adventures too.

Welcome!

Hi and welcome to my blog!

Grab a chair and sit downAs I walked through this life I learned at a late age the true value of a friendship between women. It took a special woman to break through this thick wall I had up! Now I can’t, oh and wont, imagine life without my girlfriends!

So here we will be talking about our adventures, secrets and all those things we wonder and worry about, but of course with a bit of humor can’t take life to seriously, right?

We live in Southern California, where we have the best ever weather for enjoying our out of door adventures. Surrounded by local wineries in the valley, mountains for our summer getaways and of course beaches for riding along.

Like you we juggle work, kids, husbands and what makes us sane, our time! My sanity outlet, yes you guessed it, my horses.

I have so many special people in my life that will share with us their advice, life stories and keep us up to date on things us gals need to know.

For us horse nuts we will have a trainer talking about our misbehaving four legged friends! Adventures on the local trails and from those of you sprinkled around our great states.  Sharing special events and products we find will be fun to post.

A section on life’s elixir, that delicious liquid that comes from grapes. Living in the valley surrounded by wineries we will be able to have a vintner informing us on the science of wine, wine features of the month along with great recipes from the fabulous restaurants that coexist with the wineries.  It will be such fun to learn about the different wines not just enjoying them.

Well welcome to my life and my new adventure can’t wait to get this rolling and making new friends, so grab a chair, relax and share with me your stories,

Sharon
